Shirley passed peacefully on June 10, 2021, at the age of 96. Born in Nashville, TN, on December 15th, 1924, to Dorothy and Dr. Douglas Corley, both immigrants from London, England. She grew-up in Louisville, KY where she met and married the love of her life for over 76 years, Daryl Wade Motte. Her devoted husband preceded her passing six months earlier. She is beloved and deeply missed by her three children Judy (James) Haugsland, Stephen (Suzanne) Motte, and David (Tricia) Motte, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Shirley and Daryl were dedicated members of United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay since 1961 where they served their church, the greater community, and developed friends for life. Shirley contributed her service by opening and running the Mission Store, tutoring inner-city students, and participating in international mission initiatives.
Raising her children, and then the opportunity to devote her time to her many grandchildren, provided her the greatest joy and happiness.
Shirley and Daryl traveled the world together touring Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, the Far East, Africa, the Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, and South America. As a writer, Shirley chronicled their travels and created elaborate pictorial albums.
Interment of her ashes will be private. She will rest in peace beside her husband, the war hero she loved, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay will be appreciated.
A celebration of her life will be held in the church chapel at a later date so that family members in other states can attend.
