Born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Norma’s early life took a significant turn when she was adopted by Jack and Anna Cormack. Her childhood was spent in Wauwatosa, where she attended McKinley Elementary, Longfellow Junior High, and ultimately Wauwatosa High School, graduating in 1957. Her love for learning led her to MacMurray College, where she earned a teaching degree in Physical Education. While teaching in Milwaukee, a chance connection between Norma and Richard led to a date that would forever intertwine their lives. As their relationship grew, so did their love for each other, and it wasn’t long before they exchanged vows at Ascension Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, beginning a lifetime of shared memories. Their journey together began in Milwaukee before moving to Wauwatosa where they created a home filled with love and warmth. Over the course of nearly 59 years of marriage, they built a life together, raising four sons who continue to honor their example of strength, kindness, and commitment.
Norma and Richard’s faith was central to their lives; they first joined Calvary Lutheran Church before later transferring to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. They have been devoted and active members of Mt. Zion for over 55 years where Norma found great joy in singing with the choir for many years as well as offering up her time and talents for many different church events. Norma and Dick’s foundation of faith brought many blessings throughout their lives together, and shaped every part of their family’s story.
Norma’s devotion to her family shone brightly in countless ways. Whether creating a love for music in her sons leading to many band and orchestra concerts, or cheering on local sports teams creating a passion in her boys for sport competition, she was a constant presence in their lives. Her home served as the cherished heart of the family, a place where everyone gathered for important events and holidays. Inside, she created a haven of warmth and love; every gathering was filled with laughter, games, and the joy of togetherness. Norma especially treasured her time with her grandchildren, always ready with a comforting hug and special treats like cookies, brownies, and candies. Norma also had a special place in her heart and home for her miniature schnauzers, who brought her years of companionship and joy.
Growing up, Norma spent a lot of time with her parents in Hayward, Wisconsin, where she honed her skills at fishing, always able to bring home a solid catch. As an adult, she frequently brought her family to Hayward in the summertime, passing on her love for the outdoors to both her children and grandchildren alike. In addition to her love for nature, Norma found great joy in volunteering at the zoo, where she gave much of her time and energy to work she truly cared about. Her grandkids fondly remember the many trips there, where they not only enjoyed their time together, but also experienced their grandmother’s kindness, patience, and love for helping others firsthand. Through her passions and involvement, Norma became an important part of every community she belonged to. Outside of volunteering, she spent her free time traveling, golfing, bowling, and playing the piano. Music was a constant in her life, and she was proud to sing with the Brookfield Civic Chorus and Bel Canto Senior Choir for many years.
Norma’s endless warmth, unwavering faith, and deep devotion to her family and friends will continue to inspire and comfort all those who were blessed by her love. May her love and light continue to guide the legacy of her family and all the countless lives she touched!
