Mike Sherd – October 23, 1949 – It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Sherd, 74, formerly of Waukesha and Oconomowoc Wisconsin, on September 10, 2024, from complications of Alzheimer’s and heart disease. Mike was born October 23, 1949, to Dorean and Vern Sherd in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
As a youngster, Mike learned the city where he lived, Milwaukee, like the back of his hand. Mike also became familiar with the Riverside Theatre, where he worked as a teenager and where his mother was the manager for many years. It is through the experience with theatre that he began to enjoy music and he learned to play the drums. Mike became an accomplished drummer. He would play with several local bands and made lifelong friends and memories with the members and crew.
Mike owned Parking Lines, Inc. with his brother, where they affectionately called themselves the blacktop drifters, helping businesses and private residences with their asphalt sealing needs for many years.
Mike loved anything with a motor. He was an avid collector of cars, motorcycles and boats. He was both an artist and mechanic at heart, restoring many vintage vehicles to their original grandeur, then taking them to shows. Mike enjoyed this labor of love with his friends for most of his life in his garage in Waukesha.
While Mike loved his hobbies, more than anything he loved his cherished wife Patty (nee Hanrahan). Their love story started when they met on a bowling date in Milwaukee with friends who they hold dear to this day. Mike and Patty would marry in 1977 and enjoy a wonderful life full of fun and grand parties and holidays with friends and family at their home in Waukesha. Patty and Mike were married 47 years.
Mike is predeceased by his parents and stepbrother Dan Mystrow. Mike is survived by his loving wife Patty, sister Julie Turner (Dave), and brothers and sisters-in-law and their families, cousins and many friends. Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a special uncle, great uncle and Godfather, leaving behind nieces and nephews and the children of friends, whom he loved and guided along their way. Mike had a big heart, he gave the best hugs, and he was always there for family and friends at a moment’s notice.
The family would like to thank the friends and family who assisted Patty during the last two years; Mike would be so grateful and proud. Additionally, the family thanks the caregivers at Azura Memory Care for their care and friendship with Mike as he battled this devastating illness.
Gathering will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capital Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 11:45 AM. Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
