Michael “Mick” Yanacheck, age 74, peacefully passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, September 24, 2023. He was born June 9, 1949, to Joseph and Eleanor (Wallig) Yanacheck in West Allis.
Mick survived by his wife of 42 years, Denise (nee Pedek). Loving father to Laura (William Reese) and Steven. Cherished grandfather to Brooke. Dear sibling to Timothy (Anne), William (Rose), and Joni (Jason Matt) Nolan. He is further survived by many other family and friends. Mick is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Frances.
Mick graduated from the University of Stevens Point and, while there, became a proud lifelong member of the Siasefi’s.
After 35 years, he retired from the City of West Allis Public Works Dept. During his career, he was honored to be the city coordinator for the annual West Allis Veteran’s Day parade and celebration, as well as the 4th of July parade and fireworks.
Mick was a wonderful husband and father. His granddaughter, Brooke, was the apple of his eye and they loved to play pranks together.
Golf was Mick’s favorite pastime. He and Tom Harmatys were the founding fathers of the Thursday Taggat Golf League at New Berlin Hills. In addition, he played golf with the Sunday morning Tavern League at Brookfield Hills. Mick also looked forward to dartball season and had a good time shooting darts with his friend on the St Augustine White team.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on October 19, 2023, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 6768 West Rogers Street in West Allis, with a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service. A celebration of Mick’s life to follow at New Berlin Ale House, North Hall, 16000 W Cleveland Avenue, New Berlin.
