It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marijane Halquist, beloved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. She died peacefully on June 12, 2024, her 65th wedding anniversary. Marijane was preceded in death by her parents, Fabian and Loretta Normandin and grandson, Greg Halquist. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wm. Perry; her children, Allison Wey (Rick), Bill Halquist (Jeanne), Tom Halquist (Aimee) and Amy Hurd Denny (Steve); grandchildren, Alex Wey (Dori), Matthew Wey (Mary), Audrey Halquist, Peter Wey (Nita), Margaret Halquist, Hillary Milke (Matthew), Claire Awan (Hamiz), Susan Halquist, Jack Halquist, Jeanne Hurd, Lauren Halquist, Daniel Halquist, and Katherine Hurd; step-grandchildren, Katie, Molly, Allison, and Mariah (Cameron); great-grandchildren, Kennedy Ann Wey, Wm. Knowles Wey, John Alexander Wey, and Kareem Azam Awan; her brother, Robert Normandin (Eve); sisters-in-law, Gretchen Calvert (Larry) and Mary Marshall (Steve); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marijane was born on February 26, 1940, in Queens, New York. She attended P.S. 136, Mary Louise Academy, SUNY-Oneonta, and UW-Milwaukee where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Like many couples back in the day, Marijane and Perry met in “The Library” while in college in upstate New York, however, this library was really a tavern. It was love at first beer, and they were married three months later in Garden City, NY. Then it was off to Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin where they started a family, and she became deeply involved in the community.
Marijane was the first woman elected to the Village Board of Menomonee Falls; an active member of the Republican Party and AAUW (Alumni Association of University Women), a substitute teacher (to keep an eye on her four children and their friends), and a real estate agent.
For the past 38 years, Marijane and Perry have escaped the Wisconsin winters to Scottsdale, AZ where they entertained good friends and family in their magnificent home. Over the years, she was a member at North Hills Country Club, Estancia Country Club, and Chenequa Country Club.
Marijane took great pride and interest in all her grandchildren. She spent time cheering from the sidelines of soccer and lacrosse fields and in the bleachers at football, softball, and baseball games. Marijane attended swim and ski meets, dance recitals, band and choir concerts, art shows, graduations, and other important milestones events, even took a plane ride to get there.
Marijane was a voracious reader, a fierce bridge player, a so-so golfer, and a woman with a strong sense of purpose. She counted her marriage to Perry and her family as her greatest accomplishments. She will be greatly missed.
A private entombment will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
