Kimball Bradley Smith, a devoted Marine Corps veteran and loving father and Papa, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kimball dedicated 22 years to the United States Marine Corps, serving bravely as a combat engineer in the Vietnam War. He was part of the historic first commitment of U.S. combat troops landing at Da Nang in 1965 and then volunteered for a second tour. He retired honorably as a Gunnery Sergeant from the Marine Corps Reserve. Outside of his military service, his passions included a love of history, old music and movies, spending time at the gun range and spending time with his grandchildren.
Kimball was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Nancy Smith (nee Swan). He is survived by his daughter Sara (Benjamin) Lockwood, and their children Finley, Perry, and Crosby, who lovingly remember their Papa. He also leaves behind his two sons, Douglas and Nicklas Smith, his brother Douglas (Barbara Grotjan) Smith, as well as three nieces and three nephews.
Known for his sweet tooth and kind soul, Kimball’s legacy is one of love, service, and a reminder that sometimes the quirkiest hearts make the deepest impact.
A private family service and burial will be held in his honor.
