Entered into eternal life July 25, 2025.
Loving wife of 51 years to Fred Fischer. Beloved mother of Michael (Jane) and Kathy Fischer. Dear grandmother to Adreienne (Brock) Sheffer, and great-grandmother to Roman, Lincoln and Griffin. Fond sister of George (Pat) Locher. Aunt to Matt Locher, Joe (Karen) Locher, Dick (Barb) Fischer and Steve (Mary) Fischer. Lifelong friend of Marge Bellin.
Jo was born in Kurd, Hungary in 1929, and came to the US as a baby with her parents, George and Anna Locher (Weber). Her little brother George was born here. The family stayed in touch with other Donauschwaben families that came over from Europe, and Josephine married Fred, whose parents were friends who also came from the old country. They celebrated 51 years of marriage together.
As a young woman, she really enjoyed taking cross-country trips with her girlfriends, to Florida, California and the East Coast. She was a huge fan of the Milwaukee Braves, and would join the fans who would go to the airport to greet players returning from away games, to take pictures and get autographs. She even had a pet parakeet who could say, “Go get ’em, Braves!”
Throughout her life, she really enjoyed handicrafts, reading romance and mystery novels, flower gardening, and riding in the ’41 Ford or the ’55 T-bird going on social activities with an antique car club. She went on many road trip adventures.
Jo had a passion for decorating, especially for Christmas, and collecting knick knacks. She and Fred shared a lifelong love of dogs, which they passed on to their kids Mike and Kathy. They were especially fond of toy poodles, and had three of them over the years. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of her Hungarian goulash, and she would kindly make a separate pot without meat for her vegetarian daughter.
Jo greatly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Adrienne as she grew up, and later with Brock, Adrienne’s husband, and her great-grandchildren, Roman, Lincoln and Griffin. She had a 90-year friendship with Marge Bellin, and they often celebrated their August birthdays together.
In her later years, Jo and her neighbor of many years, Semra, would often hang out together having coffee in the mornings, and neighbors Eric and Lisa set up two chairs outside their coop for Jo and Semra to sit and watch the chickens.
During the last year and a half of her life, she lived at the Woods of Caledonia, where the excellent caregivers cared for her very lovingly. They gave her a new nickname, Josie, which she loved. She especially enjoyed the crafting activities, spa baths and great food there. Her little “grand-dog” was a regular visitor, cheering everyone with his enthusiastic greetings. The family is very grateful to all of the wonderful people at The Woods.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM. Funeral Service to begin at 12:00 PM.
