Age 92, of Milwaukee, WI entered eternal life on October 20,2023.
John was born on May 19, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI and was preceded in death by Georgia (Mathes) Tsopelas his beloved wife of 65 years, parents George and Mary Tsopelas, sisters Dolores Maris, Jennie Templin, Nancy Andrews, Christine Adams, Evelyn Koconis, Dianne Curtis, and brother Daniel.
He is survived by his loving daughters Marisa (Rick) Lewis, Gina (John) Dussi, Angela (Gina Vadnais), Georgeanne (Gary) Fularczyk, his adoring grandchildren, Jason (Yiota), Lexi, Andrea (Mike), Joey, Ben (Morgan) and Meghan, and precious great-grandchildren Averia, Emy, Dimitri and Yianni. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends, especially Dave and Celeste.
John was a lifelong member of Sts. Constantine Helen Greek Orthodox Church, AHEPA and the American Legion Post 537. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and worked in the Bureau of Identification for the Milwaukee Police Department for 30 years, receiving many special commendations from local and federal government.
John enjoyed watching all Wisconsin sports teams, but his true passion was his family-he was a devoted husband and father who always put his family above everything else. He was a kind, humble, unpretentious, selfless, gentle and “simple” man who lived a full life. He was a planner until the end-his favorite saying was “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. John leaves behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed by everyone. He is now at peace and reunited with his wife Georgia.
The family would like to thank the staff of Legacy Hospice and Village at Manor Park for their compassionate care of John.
Services will be held at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2160 North Wauwatosa Avenue, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on Thursday, October 26, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Entombment at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John’s memory to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church or the Disabled American Veterans.
