Joan was born March 20th, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Eugene and Adeline (nee Miller) Dumoulin. Joan attended Washington High School where she fell in love with Bob, the captain of the football team. They were married and raised four children in Milwaukee. Bob was a police officer and Joan worked part-time at Gimbels and Kohl’s. The family enjoyed annual trips up north and to the Fox Lake Cottage. Joan loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. As daughter of a baker, she always had her special chocolate chip cookies for everyone to enjoy.
Joan and Bob retired to Fox Lake, Wisconsin, where they loved having family and friends visit. Many pontoon boat rides were enjoyed. They both had part-time jobs, Bob at Fleet Farm and Joan in the shoe department at Herberger’s. In later years they moved closer to family, finding the perfect location next door to Beth and Mike. Joan loved spending her final years in the “Joanie Suite” at Beth and Mike’s house in Delafield.
Joan and Bob enjoyed traveling, Many of their first trips exploring the US were in their trusty blue van. Other travels included Hawaii, Jamaica, Alaska, Ireland, and the Mediterranean. A highlight was their 50th anniversary Caribbean cruise with family. In later years, Door County was a favorite retreat. She also loved reading, puzzling, and a spirited political debate. Joan was dearly loved by everyone. Her strong family support, positive outlook, and quick wit will be greatly missed.
Joan left this message for her family and friends:
I have had a wonderful life with a fantastic family and great friends. I will miss you all.
