I had the great pleasure of playing bass with Gil and Dick Woppert in The Muscatels-Blues Like Fine Wine. My musical education was dependent on insinuating my way into situations where I could learn from musicians much more accomplished than myself and those two, along with Terry Arbegust on guitar and Jaime Goldsmith on drums, were some of the best. Gil could play everything from Jeff Beck to Leo Kottke and somewhere along the way taught me how to finger pick. He could sing lead as well as great harmonies. often with Mr. Woppert. I'll always be grateful. For more on Gil check out the Blues River Cafe facebook page which includes pictures of Gil from the 70's. Sorry to say I'll miss Gil's memorial as I live in New Mexico.

I am heartbroken to hear of Gil's passing. We were co-workers at the Medical College and from work buddies we became close friends. My wife Susie and I got together with Gil and Diana on many delightful occasions. An accomplished musician and electronic whiz, Gil had a wry sense of humor and always a kind word for everyone. He will be so missed.

I first met Gil at an open mic at Mama D’s in Wales a number of years ago. We hit it off in conversation and I truly enjoyed his wit, which was right up my alley. His smooth vocals and jazz influenced fingerstyle playing was always impressive. Gil became part of the Oconomowoc area music crowd and he will be missed by those of us lucky enough to have known him.
