Born in Milwaukee to George and Elizabeth Schwei, George was a natural star and awarded “Milwaukee’s Most Beautiful Baby” in 1930. He graduated from Washington High School before proudly serving his country as a member of the US Army. During his 20 year Army career, George was deployed to Korea and promoted to Chief Warrant Officer IV before retiring from the Army Reserve. George went on to work in Sewer Engineering for the City of Milwaukee where he remained for 39 years. George married the love of his life, Carol, in 1956 and together they welcomed five beautiful children. It was a perfect match that began as friends, it was a few months until their first date at Old St Mary’s, the details of this date remain controversial but started with him offering her his scarf. They shared 69 glorious years together. After many years attending St. Bernadette, George spent the later portion of his life as a resident of Servite Woods in Milwaukee and was an active member of St. Catherine’s parish where he especially loved his “1st Friday Breakfast Crew.” George and Carol were inaugural residents of Trinity Woods where they developed new friendships and enjoyed many activities; especially Happy Hour and the Friday morning Sheepshead crew where he “donated” his money on a weekly basis. George was known for his signature chocolate chip cookies and for his stubborn Austrian roots.
George had so many interests including hunting, fishing, puttering in his workshop, Western movies and snow skiing. The memories from the many family vacations are legendary. After he retired he and Carol had many adventures in their 5th Wheel as they traveled the country. His favorite place, if he had to pick just one, was Wolf Lake in Wausaukee where he spent most of his summers.
George was one of a kind and loved to say he was never bored a day in his life. He was a man who loved his family and his faith. He was loved by many people and will be incredibly missed by all. His legacy will live on and he will be forever in our hearts. Special thanks to the Trinity Woods staff for being a constant beacon of positivity and support.
