General Elwood Brown was born on February 17, 1932, to parents William Brown and Nora Elizabeth Brown (Robinson) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was one of four children blessed to this union. After graduating from Caldonia High School, he joined the Marines and was honorably discharged due to medical reasons in 1952.
Upon his discharge, he married Pearl Moore in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they raised their family of five.
He was a professional welder and worked everywhere from General Motors to A.O. Smith, where he eventually retired from.
He later married Dorothy Lee Cosey, and they came a blended family. He faithfully cared for her until her passing.
He loved barbecuing, fishing, hunting, entertaining family and friends, and Motown music. He was computer literate and trained himself to be a professional photographer. He enjoyed creating everything from leather purses, to fishing flies. He was an excellent cook and loved to talk to people about his fishing experiences.
He was an active member of St. Marks A.M.E. Church until his health issues prevented him from being there physically, so he watched his taped services on television every Sunday morning.
Many remember him as the “Neighborhood Dad,” or “Cool Dad” as ours was the house all the kids in the neighborhood gravitated too.
He is preceded in death by his parents William and Nora Elizabeth Brown, wives Pearl Brown and Dorothy Brown, sons Roderick Brown and Gregory Brown, sister Elizabeth Dabner and brothers Sonny Brown and Joe Brown.
He is survived by sons Anthony Brown and Jeff Cosey, daughters Nora Golden and Chereeia Brown all of Milwaukee, WI, in addition to a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends, and all of our dear relatives in Danville, IL and Cleveland, OH that brought so much joy into his life.
Our Dad will be missed by all who knew him…..Rest in Peace Dad…We love you……
