It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary David Hinkley, who peacefully left this world on April 10, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by his beloved wife and girls. Born on August 20, 1949, to Larence and Marie Hinkley, Gary lived a full life defined by loyalty, generosity, and doing things his way right to the very end.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Pamela (née Marlock); his daughters Michelle (Michael) Keller and Heather (Michael) Tevich; and his cherished grandchildren, Audrey and Quinn Tevich, and Evan Keller, who were the lights of his life. He was oldest brother to Eileen (Mike), Diane (Fred), Mary, Larry (Barb), Karen (Chuck), David (Bonnie), and Sue, and a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He shared a close bond with all his siblings, especially his brothers, and held a special place in his heart for his nephews Justin and Jacob, whose love and support meant so much.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Gary served with honor in the 24th Supply and Transport Battalion from 1968–1970 and continued as a reservist until 1974. After his service, he began a long career as a city semi-truck driver, first with Century-Mercury and later with USF Holland, where he retired in 2002. Never one to sit still, Gary spent another 18 years with UW Hospital, eventually serving as Fleet Manager—a role where his work ethic and gift for connecting with people truly shined.
Gary and Pam married on October 10, 1970, and soon became proud parents to two daughters. Raising strong, independent, and capable women was one of Gary’s greatest missions in life. The couple began their life together in Milwaukee before settling in New Berlin, and later, Pardeeville, where they embraced lake life and family gatherings.
Gary never met a stranger—his wit, charm, and storytelling created lifelong friendships wherever he went. One of his dearest was Sal Lorino, his mentor and partner-in-crime during their Century-Mercury days. Later in life, Charles G. Stepherson, M.D. and Tim Robinson became treasured friends who stood by him until the very end. Gary was deeply grateful for their unwavering friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents Larence and Marie, his niece Jennifer, his dear friend Sal Lorino, and many other loved ones. We take comfort in imagining Gary reunited with his dad over a game of cribbage, enjoying his mom’s cooking, and catching up with Sal over coffee.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to St. Croix Hospice for their compassion and care, and to Dr. Giorgio Gimelli, whose dedication gave us many more years with Gary.
Gary’s legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the laughter he sparked, and the family he loved so deeply. Though our hearts ache with his absence, we are grateful he is at peace.
He drove through life with purpose, grit, and heart—and now he’s on his final route, riding free.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, WI 53072, on Monday, April 21, 2025, 3:00 PM – 6:45 PM. Funeral Service at 7:00 PM.
