Florance Marie Kurth (nee Timmers) was born on April 30, 1938, in Kennan, Wisconsin, to George J. and Rose Timmers. She passed away on September 24, 2026, at Heritage Lake Country in Hartland, Wisconsin, surrounded by her family.
Florance grew up on a farm in Ladysmith with her parents; her five brothers and four sisters, George (Audry) Timmers, Jeanette (Wayne) Armstrong, Shirley (Bob) Amrhein, Herb (Bonnie) Timmers, Jerry (Gloria) Timmers, Julie (Bob) Appleton, Hank (Karen) Timmers, Mary (Steve) Haigler, and Bill (Donna) Timmers. She knew the value of hard work and faced it without complaint.
Florance and Harold were introduced by her brothers. After dating for several years, they married on September 21, 1963. They lived briefly in Georgia while Harold served in the Army, later moved to Milwaukee, and eventually settled in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, where they lived in the same home for 55 years. They raised four daughters and three sons: Christine, Lisa, Brian, Ronald, Debra, Michelle and Thomas.
Florance regularly volunteered at St. Mary’s Church and later at Queen of Apostles. She had a strong faith in God and encouraged her children to rely on their faith, knowing from experience the strength it could give them in the years ahead.
Florance had long black hair for a time, but by the time she had her fifth child, she had cut it into the familiar short curls we all remember. She preferred a certain way of having her hair set, as Lisa can attest, and liked to apply her lipstick before leaving the house. She did not like having her picture taken, but some of those early photographs show that she could easily have been a model.
As a young adult, Florance took road trips around the United States with her sisters and cousins. In later years, she traveled to Texas with her husband, Harold, sending postcards home to their children.
After her 70th birthday party, Florance said it had been a lovely surprise and would remain a memory she would cherish.
At the time of her passing, Florance and Harold had been married for 63 years and three days. Their love for one another could be seen in their kisses and snuggling. Their devotion to each other and to their family will endure.
Florance was proud of her children, and her devotion to them as a mother never wavered. She welcomed the family’s many additions, including significant others, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Florance suffered a stroke at age 43 and faced other health challenges throughout her 88 years, but she lived with strength, grace, and perseverance. Some of her final words were, “I love you all.”
As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Florance will be deeply missed by many.
Florance signed all her cards with love and the words, “God bless you.”
She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold B. Kurth; her children, Christine Kurth, Lisa Willgrubs, Debra Greene, Michelle (Randy) Garcia, and Thomas (Michelle) Kurth; her grandchildren, Elisabeth (Ben) Winter, Richard Jr. (Justine) Willgrubs, Riley Willgrubs, Lindsay Greene, and Christopher Kurth; her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alexis, Madelyn, and Jonathan Winter, and Roland and Warren Willgrubs; and her great-great-granddaughter, Layla Winter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Ronald E. Kurth and Brian M. Kurth; her son-in-law, Richard S. Willgrubs; her brothers, George and Herb; and her sisters, Jeanette and Shirley.
