Born to Eternal Life on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at age 101.
Evelyn was born in 1923 to Jerome and Anna Themar in Sheboygan, WI. At age 5, her family moved to Medford, WI, where she lived until her graduation from Medford HS in 1942. The day after her graduation, Evelyn came to Milwaukee to find employment, living with her maternal aunt, Marie Seidel.
Evelyn held many jobs, most notably aiding in the WWII effort. She worked at the Allis Chalmers Super Charger Plant in West Allis, WI, machining parts for the Super Chargers that went into the B-29 Bomber engines. She was our own “Rosie the Riveter.”
After the war in 1948, she married the love of her life Charles. They welcomed their son Nicholas in 1950 and after many years of patiently waiting, their daughter Virginia in 1963. Although Evelyn held various part time jobs after her marriage, most notably as a nursing assistant at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, her true vocation was as a loving wife and mother.
She also became a loving mother-in-law to Betty (Nicholas) Tuma and Larry (Virginia) Barbian. She was an adoring grandmother to Nicole (Nicholas) Karabats, Matthew (Anne) Tuma, Bill Tuma, Emma Barbian and Andrew Barbian. A loving great grandmother to Alek Karabats, Leia Tuma and Nora Tuma. Also close to her heart were her many nieces, nephews, and so many cousins who she cherished.
She will be deeply missed by her friends at Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, Heritage Senior Living in West Allis and her friends and caregivers at St. Camillus Assisted Living in Wauwatosa, WI.
Evelyn was preceded in death in 2009 by her beloved husband of 61 years, Charles. Also preceded in death by parents Jerome and Anna Themar, infant sister Therese, sister Jeanette Quast, brothers Peter Themar and James Themar, brother-in-law Marvin Quast, and sisters-in-law Rose Themar and Rosemarie Themar.
