Ellen grew up near the “old village” of Brookfield, one mile from Joe. They both went to Brookfield Elementary #4 and Brookfield Central High School. She graduated in 1959, obtained her bachelor’s degree in Education from UW-Oshkosh and briefly taught at Lannon Elementary. Her true passion in life was being a mother and grandmother. Her love of growing all types of flowers and plants was immense. At their farm in Pewaukee, she sold sweet corn, vegetables and pumpkins. She was passionate about nature, wetlands and wildflowers, watching her kids and grandkids in sports, and the Brewers and Packers. Ellen served on the Town of Pewaukee Park and Planning board, helped start the women’s auxiliary group for the City of Brookfield Fire Department, and volunteered at the Waukesha public schools continuing her passion for teaching. Ellen loved talking to people, anything thrifty, repurposing and fixing, antiques, crafting, painting, and her collections.
You could always find Ellen and her “green thumb” at the local greenhouses or any place where she could adore the flowers and plants, and she was so very proud of her own. There were always more plants to water, deadhead, or somehow save from dying, dried weeds to arrange, or knowledge to spread which was her fun (even the latin names she knew). She loved all holidays, always wore holiday clothes and jewelry, and outdoor holiday lights was a necessity for her. She will be deeply missed!
