Watch TributeEdward Clarence “Ed” Herwig, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, was born into eternal life on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at age 89. Ed was the fourth son of Clarence and Esther (Vetting) Herwig and born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 15, 1935. He was baptized on October 6, 1935 and confirmed his baptismal faith on April 2, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa.
Ed was a dear brother-in-law to Nancy (William) Melchior and Elaine (Richard) Meyer, and loving “Uncle Ed” to: Patrice (Mark) Orlovsky, Lynda (David) Williams, Heidi (Brian) Henke, Amy (Mark) Ostrowski, and Sarah Herwig; plus his great-nephews, great-nieces, and their children. He is further survived by cousins, friends, and his Harwood Place neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: (infant) Robert, William, and Richard.
Ed graduated in 1955 from Wauwatosa High School where he developed an interest in drafting for the Light Building Industry. He was hired in 1956 as a draftsman in the Technical Services Division of Milwaukee’s Inland-Ryerson Construction Products Co., which became INRYCO, Inc. In 1958, Ed was drafted into the Army and served 18 months near Mainz, Germany. He returned home in 1960 to serve in the Army Reserve until he was discharged in February of 1964. Ed was a model railroader and a member of Milwaukee Road Historical Association for over 50 years.
He truly loved photography and traveling the world, or just hiking nature trails and parkways. Ed was a devoted baseball fan and also a season-ticket holder for the Milwaukee Bucks in their inaugural years. After 29 years at INRYCO, Ed retired in 1986. In retirement, he served his church as an office volunteer and counter. Edward Herwig was a proud, life-long resident and home-grown historian of Wauwatosa.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, followed by a 2:00 PM service. Burial is at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
