After graduating from Sheboygan High School he moved to New Mexico where he met the love of his life Maria Gomez (Mary Burhop). Following their marriage in 1962, they moved to Milwaukee to start their family. They soon moved to the Oconomowoc area where they would live for 41 years. During that time Edgar worked in the maintenance department at Carnation and attended WCTC to earn a certificate in building computers. 

Edgar was heavily involved in Boy Scouts, acting as a leader for his sons’ troops, and was dedicated to the care of his special needs son, Daniel. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and could often be found tending to his garden, tinkering around in his computer room, or traveling the world with his beloved wife. 

After Mary’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Edgar became her primary caretaker. During this time he showed her immense compassion, understanding, and patience, truly demonstrating the depths of his love. In 2012 they moved to Luther Manor where they were able to make new friends, participate in group activities, and enjoy frequent visits from family. When Mary passed in during COVID in 2020 Edgar quarantined with his daughters family and so began his tradition of daily ice cream runs, weekly Costco trips, and spoiling her dogs. 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Burhop, his youngest son, Daniel Burhop, and his parents Edgar C. and LaVerne (Mueller) Burhop. 

Dutiful Father to Edgar C. (Donna), Gerald (Annmarie), Alan (Julie), and Anne-Marie (Michael)Fogel. 

Treasured Grandfather to Shannon (Jimmy), Lisa (Brian), Brandon (Natalie), Edgar K. (Sun), Maria (Joshua), Madeline, Katherine (Michael), Bryanna, Mikhaila, and Emma (Andrew).

Adored Great-Grandfather to Samatha, Damian, Skye, Summer, Sage, Edgar W., Mary Colson, Benjamin, Mae, Luciana, Daniel, Frederick, Jeremiah, Emily, and Annalisa. 

Edgar will be remembered for his strong-will, fierce independence, and unwavering determination to enjoy ice cream daily. 

Visitation will be held at Luther Manor, Faith and Education Room, 4545 North 92nd Street, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Burhop, that's what I called him out of respect and it helped me keep all the Edgar's separate in conversation...was an awesome dad. I saw his interactions with the family the past 20 years and he was compassionate, caring and thoughtful. He will be missed but the good news, he's with mom again and Jesus.
