David Schroederus was a kind and generous man. In addition to son, brother, husband and father, Dave was a beloved and joyful Papa. Being with his grandchildren and watching them grow up were highlights of his life. Intelligent and humble, Dave always had a passion for history and a love of reading. He could tell you almost anything you wanted to know about World War II, and he was proud of his service during the Vietnam War. His compassionate heart and nonjudgmental manner made Dave well-suited to counseling Prisoners of War when he was stationed in Okinawa.
Dave had a deep and unwavering faith in God that was quiet, compassionate, and accepting. He was loyal to his family and slow to anger, and he loved to watch sports. His favorite athletes were his grandkids. In his younger days, Dave enjoyed playing basketball and going for a run. He had a great sense of humor about himself and life, was quick to offer forgiveness or encouragement, and never missed an opportunity to let those he loved know how proud he was of them. Dave’s support for those he loved as they pursued their hopes and dreams was steadfast and genuine.
It was easy for others to feel comfortable around Dave, as he cared little for status, titles, or money. He had a gift for making lasting connections with people from all walks of life and for finding common ground with others. Dave valued time spent together, particularly over coffee, cherry pie, pizza, or hamburgers with loved ones, over material items or big events. Of all the blessings in his life, Dave most cherished his family, including his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, granddogs, and dearly departed canine companion, Mollie. He will be sorely missed, but his memory and his love will live on through those who knew and loved him.
Dave’s memorial celebration will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, with visitation from 4:00 PM – 5:45 PM and a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
