Caroldeen Katheryn Winston was born on March 26, 1945 to the marriage of Charley Audrey Echols and Samuel Noble Winston in Harrison County, West Virginia.
She graduated from Monongah High School in Monongah, West Virginia in June 1963. She lived in Washington D.C. for a time and then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she met and married LeRoy Dorn. They had one son, Michael Keith Dorn, Sr. She later married Wesley L. Riley and one daughter, Trina Cherie Riley McCormick. Later in life she met and married Ray Freeman on July 14, 1990, who she remained married to until separated by death.
She attended UW Milwaukee. Carol retired from the Milwaukee Public School system in February 2009, but her first love has always been designing, under the label of “The Difference is You.”
To Carol, outside of God, her family was everything.
“I am so blessed with a wonderful, supportive husband, son, daughter and three wonderful grandsons: Michael Jr., Justin, and Riley Edward, (who I am very, very proud to hear call me Grandma) as well as great-children, Justin Jr., Michael III and Juliet. My sister and my brother, nephews and nieces are all very precious to me.”
