Brother John was my Novice Director. A kind and generous man who exemplified what it means to be a "brother". His long life was a gift from God to all of the many people who he touched in his many and varied ministries. The world seems diminished today knowing that he has passed yet so much better for his having lived among us. Isaiah 55:10-11.

The sadness of the news of dear Brother John's passing is overwhelmed by the joy of knowing and loving him. I love the poem. One thing I loved about Brother was his humor. Another was his attitude. It was a privilege and pleasure working with him and knowing him. I can hear his voice in my mind's memory. My condolences to all the Alexian Brothers Thank you for always being yourself, Brother John Howard, a truly unique soul.
