Beverly Louise Wargowski of Brookfield died on January 15, 2026 at St. Camillus Hospice in Milwaukee, at the age of 99. She was born on October 19, 1926 in Port Huron, Michigan.
She and her mother spent much of her childhood there and in Bradenton, Florida. She attended Michigan State University and was a member of the Beta Pi chapter of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, which organized charitable events to benefit needy children. She met her husband-to-be Robert (Bob) while he was working as a gas station attendant. Their relationship deepened after WWII and they married on August 2, 1947 in Port Huron. She attended nursing school and served as a Registered Nurse while Bob earned his degree in civil engineering. They enjoyed big band music (especially outdoor dance concerts) and sailing on Lake Huron with friends. They moved to Milwaukee in 1949 to grow their family, and then to their new home in the Town of Brookfield in 1957, where she lived until 2018. She then moved to Regency Assisted Living in Brookfield where she lived until her death.
She was a strong and selfless woman who kept her own troubles to herself and put her energy into helping others. She devoted herself to her husband and children, and even took up golf to spend more time with Bob and their friends. She was a caregiver for Bob and for her mother in her home. She found comfort in her Christian faith. Until her death she was the last surviving charter member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she had many friends who looked out for her. The church and its people were the center of her social life, including a group which made quilts for disadvantaged women and families. After Bob’s death she realized her dreams of traveling to many national parks in the US with a travel group, and to Alaska and Hawaii with a son and daughter-in-law.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Robert (d. March 25, 1996), and her mother, Evelyn Swanberry (d. August 1, 1991). She is survived by her sons Robert Jr. (Deanna), David (Lori), and James (Missy), 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church, 20275 Davidson Road, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Saturday, April 11, 2026 with visitation at 1:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Ashes will be interred at Highland Memorial Park, near those of her husband and mother.
