God has been very unfair by taking away our dear friend. Can't believe that this day has come so soon in our lives where we had to write condolences for our friend who left us so early. no words are enough to express our grief on your loss dear Atul. As everyone is born unique in their own way. there's always and will be one and only one Atul that we have known in our lives and you will always live in our hearts forever. we are also with the entire family in their mourning and grief. may the almighty give strength and courage in these hard times.

We spent 4 years studying Mechanical Engg but many of us (me included) did not have a hands on understanding of things mechanical beyond the basics. I remember Atul being one who had a good grasp. This was evident during our efforts for a Technex Engineering Fair project where we had to build a sample. Although our project itself didnt get too far, his expertise always stayed with me. My heartfelt condolences to Atul's family for this irreparable loss and I pray for strength during this difficult time.

I received the news of Atul's passing with shock and great sadness - he was a good friend. My earliest memory of Atul dates back to our third year in college - Atul's hostel room was a few doors down from mine. I remember once walking past his room and seeing him at his desk, reading with a focus and intensity I marveled at. Years later, that intensity was on full display when he, then a recent arrival to the US, decided to visit me in Philadelphia, driving all the way from Cleveland, covering a not so insignificant distance of over 400 miles in the peak of winter. I remember taking him to see Boathouse Row on the Schuylkill river and then going to look at the Liberty Bell. We spent the weekend catching up on the years since we had last seen each other, the visit etched forever in my mind. After making a short trip to New York City, he then drove back to Cleveland through a blizzard and snowstorm in the dark, braving road conditions that would have deterred me. That determination and passion was the hallmark of Atul's personality. He was always striving to do better, never ceasing to challenge himself. I treasure the friendship I had with Atul - he will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Atul, all of us of Mech. Engg. '89 batch will miss you. Our heartfelt condolences to you Ashita, Amish and Anjika. May God give you strength to cope with this huge loss. Om Shanti. I share happy memories of Jan 2005 here when I along with college friends Ravi Chand, Venu Madhav met Atul in Gurgaon Shopping Mall and had lunch together.

Atul idolized US olympic diver Greg Louganis in college. Atul saw in Greg a perfectionist that he himself aspired to be. That’s probably why he applied himself to Mech engineering more than most of his classmates. He was an intense human being, an idealist, a true secular liberal who lived true to his principles. He will be greatly missed by his IIT BHU fraternity. Om shanti 🙏🏽
